Facebook

I just got an "invite" from a friend on facebook that helped clear up a recent issue.  Apparently when the new facebook was rolled out, everyone's news feed settings were changed to "friends and pages you interact with most".  Which means if you didn't comment on someone's page in the first few weeks after switching to the new facebook, you haven't been receiving their updates.  I've got almost 80 followers but I'm not sure if everyone has been getting my posts, so here's what you need to do to fix it:

"Have you noticed that you are only seeing updates in your newsfeed from the same people lately? Have you also noticed that when you post things like status messages, photos and links, the same circle of people are commenting and everyone else seems to be ignoring you?

Don't worry, everyone still loves you and nobody has intentionally blocked you. The problem is that a large chunk of your friend/fan list can't see anything you post and here's why:

The "New Facebook" has a newsfeed setting that by default is automatically set to show ONLY posts from people who you've recently interacted with or interacted the most with (which would be limited to the couple of weeks just before people started switching to the new profile). So in other words, for both business and personal pages, unless your friends/fans commented on one of your posts within those few weeks or vice versa - you are now invisible to them and they are invisible to you!!

HERE'S THE FIX: On the homepage click the "Most Recent" title on the right of the Newsfeed, then click on the drop down arrow beside it and select "Edit Options", click on "Show Posts From" and change the setting to "All Of Your Friends and Pages" (you can also access the "Edit Options" link at the very bottom of the facebook homepage on the right) Note: Business pages do not have a newsfeed however page owners should adjust the settings on their personal accounts.

The good news is: now you can now view all of your friends and fans again. The bad news is: YOU ARE STILL INVISIBLE to a large portion of your list. You must get the word out to ALL of your friends and fans by inviting them to this event or creating one of your own so they can read the post and adjust their settings. To invite your friends: Click on "Attending" at the top and then you will see an option to invite your friends at the top left. It’s public so everyone who logs onto facebook can view it and even the friends who can’t see your posts WILL see the event invitation. You can also tweet about it, create a blog post or send out an email to your subscribers in hopes of reaching them all."

Stained Glass Update

Things have been quiet around here for a couple weeks, but they're heating up quickly.  Now that Kayo Dot have returned from their European tour, the Stained Glass vinyl is getting our full attention.  A few ideas were being tossed around between myself and Toby, and we've confirmed w/ Hydra Head that these details will be included in the 12" LP release:

-500 copies on 180 gram vinyl, 2 or 3 colorways (colors and pressing numbers TBD)
-Full color jacket printed on reverse board
-Insert on uncoated stock w/ lyrics and album details
-11x17 full color poster on 100# uncoated text with additional artwork by Toby exclusive to this release
-B side will contain a super stripped down remix featuring the track as it was originally composed, as a rhodes-vibes-guitar trio.  Remix is exclusive to this release.

I couldn't be happier about being a part of this awesome release.  Both Kayo Dot and Hydra Head are very excited as well.  There are a few important details to work out before going into production, but it won't be long.

Bath & Leaving Your Body Map

I know a lot of you are wondering about the details for the maudlin of the Well Bath & Leaving Your Body Map box set.  I've recently been back in touch w/ Dark Symphonies and the release is still a go.  Here are the details that I'm planning for the set:

500 4xLP sets on 180 gram vinyl, housed in a matte black box with foil stamped motW logo on the cover
Each disc will be in its own full color inner sleeve
Bath vinyl will be black & yellow, half & half
Leaving Your Body Map will be black & red, half & half
I would like to include an 11x17 poster, or inserts as well

The original artwork was sold a long time ago and is no longer available for scanning to make the cover images vinyl size.  I'm going to discuss re-creating the images for this release, so they don't have to be printed at small scale to look clean.

Needless to say, this is going to be an awesome release.  I'm so glad we've been given the opportunity to bring these albums to life on vinyl, 10 years after their original release.  These are going to be quite expensive to produce, so I may need to start pre-orders early to get this monster off the ground.  I've got a goal of 200 pre-orders to make it happen.  It won't posted until all the artwork is finalized, since that is a moving target right now, with Kayo Dot touring in Europe through the end of February.  Once things are moving, I'll set a date for when the pre-order will be live and we'll see what happens!  Spread the word.

2011

Things have been pretty quiet around here for the last couple of months.  I wanted to give everyone an update on our plans for 2011.  We would like to put out at least 2 more releases this year, most likely starting with Irepress' Samus Octology (which was originally confirmed last summer with the label), and then following up with the Animals as Leaders album.  These have been posted as "coming soon" in the store for months, but not much has been going on with them in the background.  Its time to get things moving again!

As far as other future releases go, Antithetic has been in contact with Dark Symphonies in hopes of releasing the earlier maudlin of the Well albums on vinyl.  Originally these were not on the table, but we asked again just to be safe, and we're glad that we did!  It's confirmed that Antithetic Records will have licensing rights to release the first 3 motW albums on vinyl!  Our initial thoughts are to release Bath and Leaving Your Body Map as a 4LP box set.  Not sure exactly when this will happen, but all in due time.  We have also been in contact with Hydra Head Records about doing a vinyl release for Kayo Dot's Stained Glass EP.  This one is also available to us for licensing, so it will be on our radar as a future release as well.  It will be great to work with Toby again on all of these.  The first albums on my wishlist before this label was started were Bath and LYBM, so its awesome to know that we will be giving these a vinyl release.

We are also planning on making some stickers with our new logo, and a few shirts just because we think its so awesome.

I think that's about it for now.  We're excited about this year and can't wait to work with some new bands, as well as our friends.  Thanks for making 2010 a great start!

Part the Second Photos

Here are a few photos I've taken of the Part the Second vinyl.  Enjoy!
This is the first pallet that has ever been delivered to my house.  500 Gatefold jackets!
 No, those aren't chinese fans...

Here's a shot of the outside of the jacket...
...and here's the inside.  Did I mention how awesome Toby Driver's artwork is?

Here's a shot of the light blue swirl, followed by the yellow swirl.

I have to comment on the amount of variation in the coloring of the vinyl.  Upon opening the packages I found that a handful are very colorful (being predominantly light blue or yellow), many are lightly colored as was the original intent (like the ones pictured), and some are so faint that that they basically look like speckled/swirled white.  I'm going to separate out these white copies and sell them as such, so no one is disappointed in the color they receive.  Once I have an accurate count I'll adjust the pressing numbers in the store.  Please rest assured if you have ordered a blue or yellow, that is what you will receive.  Again, we can't guarantee they will look anything like these pictures, but they'll be colored!  Thanks to everyone who ordered and has waited patiently for these.  It's been awesome working with Toby to bring this release to life.  We greatly appreciate your support, and look forward to bringing you more great releases in the near future!

maudlin of the Well Vinyl is In Stock!

Finally all the pieces of the Part the Second vinyl have arrived.  We are working hard to package all of the pre-orders and get them shipped out this week.  Thanks so much to everyone who ordered for your support and your patience!  Pictures of everything will be posted very soon.

Just a heads up, we've already gone through just about half of the light blue copies, and a little under half of the yellow.  If you've been waiting until they were in stock to order, now is the time!

Check Out the NEW Artwork!

As we had mentioned in the previous post, The cover art was being tweaked for the final release.  Toby Driver just finished up the editing yesterday, and as you can see, it looks fantastic!  Much more vibrant and cleaner than before, which will translate very well to the 12"x12" gatefold jackets.  The art has been sent to the printer to generate proofs.  The labels were sent to the pressing plant last week and records should be in production right now.  Its getting very close!!!

Slight Delay

Hey everyone.  Just wanted to let you all know that there's been a couple delays in the Part the Second vinyl.  The original labels that I ordered to be pressed onto the records weren't right for pressing.  They were actually stickers, cut to the size of the vinyl labels, to be self attached to each record.  I'm all for promoting the DIY ethic, but I wasn't about to stick 2000 labels onto records, so we had to get them remade for pressing.  The bad news is that it pushed back record production a couple weeks, the good news is that everyone is getting a set of 4 stickers!  One other item is that the cover artwork is being tweaked so that it looks proper in the large 12"x12" format.  It was originally formatted to be viewed on a computer screen, so Toby wants to make sure it is perfect before we have them made.  I am anticipating that everything will be made by Friday, 10/15, pre-orders will be packed that weekend and shipped out on the follwing Monday, 10/18.  Again, this is just an estimate.  Keep an eye on this blog or our facebook/twitter pages for any updates.  As soon as the final product is in hands, expect to see a lot of awesome pictures!
